La Maison du Quantique Occitanie is organizing a Quantum Hackathon dedicated to solving scientific problems in fluid mechanics and space science on October 26–28, 2026.
The emergence of quantum computers is paving the way for a new generation of computing systems that harness the properties of individual quantum systems, such as photons, trapped ions, neutral atoms, and spins. These technologies offer promising new approaches for tackling particularly complex scientific computing problems. Understanding how they work, as well as their capabilities and limitations, is becoming an essential challenge for the next generation of engineers and researchers.
This Quantum Hackathon will explore a range of scientific challenges through the development and application of quantum algorithms. The proposed challenges will include:
- Fluid simulation
- Weather and atmospheric modeling
- Combustion process simulation
- Optimization problems related to the space sector
Participants will be guided by experts in quantum computing and the relevant application domains. They will also have the opportunity to run their programs on real quantum computers provided by Pasqal and Quandela, hosted at the CEA’s Très Grand Centre de Calcul (TGCC).
Who Should Attend?
The Quantum Hackathon is open to students, engineers, and researchers interested in discovering how quantum technologies can be applied to scientific computing problems.
The proposed challenges are intentionally open-ended to encourage participants to explore a variety of approaches. The primary objective is educational: to provide hands-on experience with quantum computing methods and tools through a practical project.
To help participants get started, an introductory course on quantum computing will be offered at CERFACS in early October. Registration for this course is separate and available at:
