SCIROCCO has allowed multiple main achievements for the community:
- A new hydrogen injection system has been designed, built and tested: HYLON was extensively studied at IMFT, computed by IMFT and CERFACS and patented with SAFRAN HELICOPTER ENGINES. It is now one of the 4 final soluations retained by SAFRAN for future gas turbines.
- The resuls of HYLON have also been distributed worldwide through papers (see https://cerfacs.fr/scirocco/index.php?id=publications) but also through a community action where HYLON data was stored on the data server of the TNF workshop and made available to the whole research community. This action was supported by the CLEAN AVIATION program to allow all scientists to compute a validated H2 air set up and compare their results. In 2024, almost 20 groups worldwide have worked with this set of data from USA, Italy, France, Sweeden, UK, Germany etc.
- The version of AVBP developed within SCIROCCO has become a standard tool for H2 flames in SAFRAN and many laboratories. It incorporates multiple models specifically developed for H2.
- Five PhD students will have graduated with an advanced expertise on H2. Most of them work today on H2: A. Aniello for ARIANEGROUP, PA. Masset for CEA, S. Marragou at KAUST.
- SCIROCCO has been a driving force to develop experimental capacities for H2 in Toulouse, a ta sk which can be difficult because burning H2 safely in labs is not always easy. IMFT now has its dedicated H2 laboratory and can host other programs such as the ERC advanced Grant of T. Schuller, SELECT-H, staring in October 2023.
