From coal combustion to red blood cell modelling: the HPC as a tool in solving complex problems
In this presentation, two issues are adressed: turbulent coal combustion modelling and blood flow modelling. Through these two practical applications, several topics are discussed such as turbulent reactive flow, reduced chemistry, haemo-physics, particulate flow, code optimization and HPC. For each problem, a brief introduction summarising the issue and the context is presented first. Then, the physical processes involved in each problem are described and the chosen modelling strategies are presented. Finally, some of the results acquired by HPC simulations are discussed.
