European Research Night 2017 : the CERFACS stand

CERFACS was present at the European Researcher Night 2017 at the  Quai des Savoirs à Toulouse a with a stand entitled “Can one enter an engine, an airplane or the whole Earth into a computer”?

To the left of the stand, a silent animation presented examples of numerical simulations carried out at CERFACS: the power of supercomputers, flames, engines, gas turbines, aircraft, floods and climate. Projected on the wall, an interactive slideshow allowed the public to immerse themselves in the world of numerical simulation by answering questions of increasing difficulty using color boxes with the letters A, B or C: notion of digital grid , space or time steps, number of dimensions, increased power of computers, flames, aircraft, floods, climate and hurricanes. A hundred people were attentive to the CERFACS booth and many participated in the quiz from the beginning to the end of the presentation. Matthias Delozzo, Sophie Ricci, Olivier Thual and Sophie Valcke, representing CERFACS on the booth, were able to interact with the public through various discussions on scientific computing.
